This Month’s Spotlight: Cervical Cancer -What Every Woman Should Know

Cervical cancer develops in the cells of the cervix. It is most often the result of persistent infection with high-risk types of the human papillomavirus (HPV). The powerful truth is that cervical cancer is highly preventable and highly treatable when it’s found early. Routine screening — through Pap tests and HPV testing — can detect abnormal changes long before they become cancer. Furthermore, HPV vaccination can significantly reduce risk over a lifetime.
Yet too many women are still diagnosed late. This is especially true for women of color who face barriers to screening, follow-up, and culturally informed care. Symptoms aren’t always obvious, which makes prevention and regular checkups even more critical.
Our Violet Sheets for Cervical Cancer Awareness and Prevention offer simple checklists, questions to ask your provider, and practical next steps. They are designed to help you advocate confidently for your health.
Prevention is power. Early detection saves lives.
